Which S1 Exhaust??
Which S1 Exhaust??
Hi All
Looking for options on a new exhaust for the S160, running standard 340r/s160 manifold ,but need, a new flex(£100) and a st st janspeed, now 8 years old, and done.
Is jim still doing them for the s1?
i have been told that the 340r/s160 manifold is to big in dia to work correctly, so may change the full system.
Cheers

Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
I have the 340r manifold, decat and larini clubsport if you want to hear/drive it? if the manifold is a 38mm I think it's OK? I think there is also a larger 40 or 42mm which I believe to be the one that's too big, could be completely wrong but I'm 75% sure kiwirog said that to ali when I was buying mine. Pipercross do a 4-2-1 and raceline do a 4-1

Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
Are the Larini's track day friendly though? I know on the VX220 they sound lovely but they often fail noise regs at track days, dont know if its the same for S1/S2's? Might be worth considering the answer if you are planning on tracking it.

this is advertised at present and i do have the guys e mail, if its still there it is a snip
" I have for sale due to a honda conversion a Piper manifold, stainless decat and Larini Clubsport exhaust system.
All have done less than 1000 miles and are in as new condition.
Sounded superb on the car and made it pull much better through the gears.
Looking for £500 which I think is a great price considering a manifold alone is about £400."
but if you go 1.9 / 2.0 i expect you will want a large bore
however if your going with a special k , maybe jim will build another jv5 he still has the patterns ultra light , very clever but very expensive however great gains

Good point! I doubt it mine is pretty loud! Knockhill doesn't seem to be a problem and I don't seem to venture further afield so OK for me but prob not for you Stu? Tubular might be best bet for track use...vx220 wrote:Are the Larini's track day friendly though? Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
You probably want the (equivalent of) the narrow bore Janspeed 4-2-1 with seperate flexi . . . I have the same on my motor . . . I also have a motorsport cat (which passes MOT's) and a HUGE Tubular silencer matched to the manifold . . . quite quiet apart from at full boot . . . works well . . . very happy with the way the car works and the more refined noise . . .

Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
Cant remember if the 160 /340r janspeed is the small bore one?

I think it's the big bore one on the 160 . . . IIRC It's too big for that of motor . . .

Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
As this is a recent thread, though it best to resurect it rather than create a new one.
My flexi pipe is gone on my S1. Replacement jobbie from EP is around £150. As I'm replaceing this anyway, I though about looking at a 421.
There are several bores mentioned from 35 through to 40+. I'd like to slowly bring up the power of the car from standard where it is ATM, but not to highly strung levels. So which would be right for my needs if I went this way?
Or should I just replace the flexi bit with an EP one and then if I choose to go 421 later then I can sell this and get some of the money back...
Also, I notice that the EP one has six holes in the manifold flange, while the parts manual shows only four holes...

I have this
http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show ... -manifold/
I was warned not to go too big unless your going for 200bhp+

Re: Which S1 Exhaust??
the four hole manifold is very restrictive , you would be better fitting the later six stud manifold , and pipeFerg wrote:

i used a s/h mgtf and rewelded the hanger bracket to suit , but a small bore 421 would be better again
factor in a new lambda sensor also unless yours comes out ok
