s1 111s exhaust?
looking to fit a new exhaust and decat pipe to my 1999 elise 111s, can anyone recommend which one to go for and where i can get it, not bothered about price, want something that sounds decent.

I had a Janspeed supersport on mine when I bought it and it sounded like a sewing machine so upgraded to JJ's old stainless exige number. Sounds absolutely fantastic with the decat on 
Quicksilver exhaust I hear is great, as is an eliseparts exhaust. All depends on how much you're prepared to spend. hangar 111 do mine in full stainless for £250 or thereabouts on ebay every now and again.

I think it depends on the combination you have. I noticed decat with the Brooke Kensington exhaust gave a noticable power decrease while decat plus the EliseParts zorst gave a noticable increase. Both exhausts, decated or not gave an increase over my old OE exhaust... but then that did have a few holes in it.

Somewhere, a while back, a bunch of MGF owners did extensive back to back rolling road tests checking effects of various de-cat pipes, Tbs, induction kits & the like.
Conclusion was that the VVC'd engines as fitted to 111s etc loose power (only 2-3 bhp) cos they run better with a bit of back pressure.
I had one fitted for a year & noticed very little difference appart from not being able to run with the rear window removed cos of the fumes.
I believe a sports cat is supposed to work tho if you want to experience the sounds.
My car came with a hurricane & magnex exhaust which sounds ok, & I fitted the trophy tb which does make a noticable improvement in throttle response.....From reading other folks views on the trophy tb there seem to be two camps, some folk like them & some don't think they have much effect. When you look at who's posting what, I noticed that 111s owners seem to think they make a big difference where as standard car owners don't seem to rate them. Maybe they're better suited to the VVC's breathing?

As Baggy states, the standard 111S fuelling works better with the cat in place - I can only imagine it's something to do with cylinder filling and scavenging with the standard VVC inlet cam mapping.
With an emerald, you can adjust the fuelling/cam mapping to take advantage of the lower back pressure - as I've done in conjunction with the throttle bodies and 4-2-1 manifold.
The bigger single TB will probably suit the VVC engine, as the improvements with DTH TB's are pretty impressive.
Zorsts really are a matter of personal preference - one man's sonorous is another's raspy. Best to get along to KH and hear some in action and then collar the drivers to tell you what it is....

The Quicksilver exhausts sound nice but don't seem to last very long. My first one broke at the weld where the end pipe exits the silencer box when it was 18 months old.
It comes with a 25 year guarantee but they said that it didn't count as my car had been tracked, despite the fact that it's a sports exhaust and the thing was only 18 months old.
Eventually they offered to repair it if I sent it back. What came back was a brand new exhaust - even though they said they had repaired and returned my original one. Doubt it, unless they cleaned and polished it inside and out. Who cares, I was happy to get a new one.
Anyway - they said that was a strict one off and that if it failed again that was just tough. Today it's broken again after about another 18 months. Different place this time - where the end pipe splits into two just as it leaves the bodywork. I will try my luck tomorrow and see if they've forgotten about the one off rule and fix/replace it - but I don't fancy my chances.
I won't be buying another Quicksilver - I will probably go for a Larini Club Sport or a Janspeed Road Sport instead. Both of which offer liftetime guarantees that more or less say once it's on you should never need to take it off.
