Hi,
Just by fitting a new exhaust to my car and have noticed this hole in the old exhaust silencer. It looks like a drilled hole. Does anyone know if this is meant to be like this? Found it strange that there was a hole. The exhaust is from an Exige S. Here's a pic showing the hole:
Cheers,
kevin.

Water drain most likely.

With my limited knowledge of cars, you do not want an extraneous hole in your silencer box.
Plug it dear Henry, plug it...........

I was thinking you would not want a hole in the silencer. Trying to find out if it should be there as if not will be contacting the garage as exhaust is meant to be new. Was put on when i bought the car as the clamp was broken on the previous exhaust, so is only a couple months old.

The hole isn't corrosion, it's been drilled. Either somebody drilled into it by mistake, or more likely it serves a useful purpose that we don't yet understand - do tell us when you find out

It appears that the hole is a condensation drain, taken from Seloc:
Yup.. Condensation drain hole.
Baffled silencers can start collecting water (containing acids from the exhaust) in their chambers and if it isn't drained it will start to corrode from the inside out.
MOT regulations usually specifically allow such a drain hole and don't calssify it asn an exhaust leak
