Hard top - gap?

Post by woza » Mon Apr 05, 2010 5:08 pm

Hi all,

I know now specifically a 'technical' question but im hoping that as i'm new you will let me off!

Took the hard top of the elise for the first time this weekend. Having just put it back on i have noticed the gap between the roof and the windows in the top corner.

Now i know there was a gap before as rain gets in when you pull away but im not sure the gap was as big - or maybe im just noticing it more now.

It's at least a couple of centimetres, anyone else think this is a bit too much?

Woza.

Either the roof is not located properly or one of the sides of the wind has slipped slightly.

Try the first - loosed all the spline bolts and reset the roof - does it look right - smooth alignment all round ? - then retighten.

Can you take a piccy ?

having just taken off my hard top for the first time this weekend (any now have the most annoying creeking) I agree it sounds like an alignment issue.

Just out of interest does yours now creek and squeak?

I found that smearing the seals with Vaseline before putting the hardtop back on stopped a lot of the squeaking.

Why would you be putting the hard top back on again at this time of year

On a more topical note, I've also got an 07 S with a hardtop (mine came off a few ago and will remain off until next winter), but have never had any problems with gaps anywhere. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I never get any leaks with the hardtop and very few with the softop. It sounds like an alignment issue. Have you tried losening all the bolts then see if you can manipulate the roof so it fits snuggly?

Good luck
Duggie
