A brief summary of the problem with Pete C's Exige S ( with Performance Pack )

- Car had been running perfectly two days previously.
- Wheels changed over for trackday.
- Immediately noticed that car started misfiring at 2k rpm and traction control indicator illuminated.
- Car rev'd normally if not moving.
- Traction control switched off - Now Shift lights / rev limiter cutting in around 2k rpm.

Our initial thoughts were that an abs sensor ( which I guess are used as inputs for the traction control ) had been inadvertently disconnected, either when replacing the wheel or by a badly located balance weight, but everything looked ok.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of similar problems before but can't find any reference to it on either SE or SELOC.

Any thoughts please let me know - or he'll want to track my Panda again

If a wheel sesnors faulty the traction control will simply stop working.

Can you check if a you have shorted a sensor/wires out, maybe by a wheel weight in the wrong place damaging the sensor ?. If the sensor/wiring is shorting out it will give the ecu strange readings (as if a wheel is spinning) and the ECU will try and counter it by cutting the revs.

Difficult one to try and solve over internet but thats where i would start, especially if a wheel change seems to hsve started the problem.

Not much help, but I ran my s without any abs sensor and it was okay just didn have TC so think you could look elsewhere for a start.

I was thinking along the same lines with the wheel weights - will take a closer look tomorrow. Pete's too busy selling ice-cream today.

I still suspect it's sensor related as the car revs freely when sitting stationary.

Didn't realise that the system switches off ( rather than faults out ) if no abs signal is available. We'll try running with the sensors disconnected and also check the impedances and signal from the sensors to see if that shows up anything unusual.

It's still under warranty anyway so it will probably end up being recovered to Murrays anyway. Just want to confirm it's not something simple first.

Has your trac weels/tyers a difrent roling curcufrence to standrd.
The sistem will problay comper F/R weel speed as well as across the rear weels?

Good thinking Hambo but no - the usual tyre sizes, just switching from T1-Rs to A048s for the track.

..... unless the silly b*gger put the fronts on the rear and vice-versa ( he's getting a bit forgetful and was recently black flagged for driving round KH with his helmet on the passenger seat )

Cheers for the input but after disconnecting abs sensor fault is stil there so is now going off to MMC .Looks like it may be ecu related ? (May be the ecu has a safe mode where revs restricted as a get home measure (Rev limiter cutting in at 3000rpm with traction turned off )(starting to limit rpm at about 2500/ 2700with traction on).Still got a months warranty on it so hopefully no hassle.
