340R Colin's Honda Conversion

Post by Gourlay83 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 10:46 pm

Colin has decided to Honda his 340R. We will be doing the conversion together over the next few weeks. He also asked me to post up some pics as the build progresses.

Took delivery of a 6,000 mile Engine/Box. Colin wants his to be a little different so we're doing some Engine Work with a better inlet manifold and a 2bular over the top exhaust manifold. Using the Stark Engine Mounts, Gear Linkage and Driveshafts. Aim of the game is to make this Colin Proof so stronger driveshafts are being made for this conversion.

Work won't be started on the 340R until I have the Engine Built and have all the parts ready to fit.

Had to remove rocker cover to ensure I order the correct Valve Springs, took some photos for those interested in how Vtec works.

Hi Gareth, maybe see you at the college one of these days.

Looking around the £6000 mark but thats with a Kpro and an over the top manifold, so can be done for less. Thats the spec I would start with. Colin had the advantage of having VHPD with CR Box so they're worth more than the Honda lump. So he got the Engine/Box and some cash. So even with all the Engine work he is still half the price of a turn key.

Glad some one else has seen the light on Honda power :thumbsup, the addictive 2ed cam, Jims exhaust Just sounds the dogs, as well as better fuel consumption too regularly getting over 37 even though mines been on the second cam more in the past month than in ages giving an entertaining drive to work

My experience lies with the F20 engine (s2000) which is a very similar beast, if you are getting a bespoke manifold made ask the guy to replicate hondas dimensions closely, (when i got mine it was 20hp down because of a 'super duper' manifold that actually reduced power !!), mappable Vtec really helps and really improves low down grunt ( i use RTD but there are loads of others), Big throttle bodies like 48mm jenveys and long inlet to butterfly length dont really affect peak power but really fill out the mid range well, we spent a bit of time at agra race engines over xmas on their dyno and learnt loads, those of you with any respect for engines dont look !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrc0JSutbfg 255bhp and 185 ft/lbs from an internally std engine :D

Jim@2bular is making the manifold and he has done plenty to know the correct primary lengths and it is going over the top of the Subframe (Striaght Out). We looked at ITB's (jenveys) but you can't fit them in a 340R as you need long trumpets to get them to work properly and I would need a different type of ECU.

We have

RBC manifold with a custom made throttle body,
Fitting new uprated valvesprings
Head skim with high compression head gasket and a set of
Camshafts to suit the exhaust. All being made by Clockwise Motion.

Trying to get the most out of a standard bottom end and rev limit, i would expect around 250 BHP with a very flat torque curve (fingers crossed anyway :D )

How about a 300 BHP one Andy ?

Same spec as above but with a 2.2 Bottom End/High Compression Pistons and heavier cams.

Fancy building one for myself, if funds and jen allow.
