Hi there.

I know this will have been asked before? But will the VVC engine fit in to my Elise. MY car is the 1999 S1 standard 1.8

Or is it far to much hassle?

Is your current engine broken ?

it will require new looms ecu etc but that is about as far as my knowledge goes i'm afraid

Yes, needs that engine loom & ECU, along with the appropriate re-coding of immobilisers. Not a straight swop, but not far off plug & play (immobiliser recoding is the only sticky point)

So, get the ecu paired with your immoblilser and that looks like it has everything you need - good price too. I bought one a few years ago for £450 with no ecu or loom (which ain't cheap) and it wasn't the 160 variant (which has better pistons IIRC)

Whats the yellow bit closest to the camera next to the VVC plenum chamber thingimybob (photo3)

unless my engine was fecked or I was good with spanners I wouldnt bother for a high-ish milage engine.

Mmmm this could be a easy option for me, if things turn out for the worse  As my head gasket failed yesterday on my way back from Edinburgh. :puke :puke :thumbsdown We will have to see what its like when i get the head off. As i really dont fancy having a engine strip down, and i want the car for TT

Worst case, your standard one will bolt on, but probably sap a few horses.

Thats the oil filler cap.
When its mounted in an MGF.....you cannot get access to the cap on the cam cover

Does look like a good price, but has a fair few miles on it (my first engine gave up at 55k  ). Would probably worth changing the head gasket and timing belt on any engine that's out of the car, and clutch if yours hasn't been done.

Good luck getting it sorted.
