Clutch Slave - replace or re-seal?

Post by Ferg » Tue May 25, 2010 10:40 pm

Hey Folks,

My clutch slave cylinder seals are leaking. Over on SELOC there has been mention of replacing the seals cheaply but where do you get them? Or would you just replace the whole thing?
TBH I'd be happy to save a few quid by just doing the seals if it's possible to get the kit. Do lotus do the seal kit? B&C maybe? I'll call them tomorrow.

Ferg,
Any time I have replaced seals in a master cylinder they don't tend to last long. So I generally just replace rather than repair, problem is you can get wear on the inner surfaces and not just the seals.

Yeah, I would replace the slave cylinder ... 2nd hand one sounds like the best of both worlds.

Cheers,

If you keep managing to collecting parts FOC at this rate your service is going to be verrrrryyy cheap! Just as well with the new baby, that will keep all in the family happy. :thumbsup

I've been fortunate to pick up some bits this week from some generous members, but I just ordered all the remaining parts for a full on C-service for which I needed a special pass from the Mrs so any savings here and there result in brownie points too. What would I do without SE eh!

Don't tell her, but I'm likely to need tyres shortly too. :blackeye

Fitted the slave cylinder today with minimal hassle using the cable tie method to reduce bleeding issues as suggested on SELOC. All in all it only took about 40 mins.

Thanks to Alan for sending out his old unit for me to use. :beer
