Europa S wheels

Post by SAJ » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:53 pm

Hi,

I want to change the wheels on my Europa. Mainly because I want to increase the size of the front tyre and make it that bit wider.

I've seen the 17/16" team Dynamics Pro Race wheels but was wondering what other wheels are available?

You can go to 195 fronts with standard wheels. I switched to Goodyear F1 which is standard fit on the SE
I went 195 front 225 rear. There is a bit more flex in the sidewall but the wet weather grip is better.

Thanks, sticking 195/45/17s on the front would be fine but I also wanted to be able to stick winter tyre on the car too, not that I plan to drive the thing in snow, but the difference in grip from a summer tyre and a winter tyre in the cold is massive.

The smallest winter tyre I could find in 17s were 205s.

The only winter 195s that would suit come in 16s - 195/55/16 which would fit the TD front wheels.

Have seen Compomotive wheels on a Europa that looked really good but no idea what size they were. Best bet would be to check VX sites to see what people have used or is available. Let me know what you find. :thumbsup

In VX tuning land, your choices are limited by the fact the car is running Astra hubs so the normal lotus replacements wont work without changing hubs, discs etc.

Your choices are Team Dynamics, Compomotive 5 spokes above or some nice 6 spokes. You could get OZ's for while but you'd had to get them second hand now.

The TD's are the wheel of choice on the Vx forum but that's mainly cos they are cheap and the owners are pikeys.

This is the compomotive 6 spoke, five spoke is as above in Scotty's post.

If i were you i'd put a call into compomotive as they appear to be pretty helpful. I know there were different wheels on the SE europa but dont know much about them TBH

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I think there is another group buy on the vx forum right now for compomotive wheels.

Worth while for a bit of a discount.

oooh Donkey, I reall like the Compomotive 6 spoke on the VX - I wonder if a set of those would trigger divorce proceedings though as I have just splashed cash on Nitrons. Mmmh :?

SE wheels were not available through Lotus as they claimed they were not suitable without suspension mods(?), and the supplier to Lotus wanted silly money I believe ( £1800+ )

Yeah I like the six spoke - only issue is the funny offsets / widths means that the front wheel spokes protrude more than the back ones - i still think it looks ok.

Also just realised I havent mentioned that all these wheels are 16/17 combination so you maybe left with a bit of a wheel arch gap unless you drop the car a bit...........i'm pretty sure that Europa that scotty posted has been lowered.

Protruding spokes look gash IMHO :D I like the look of the 6 spokes too; but not keen on the protruding spokes.

Taken from vx220.org

Stephanie has emailed me to let me know they are making up a new version of the MO5's in both 7*16 and 8*17 sizes

These wheels are different in design to the older style that was rejuvinated for the group buy; they have a slightly rounder finish on the spokes which makes them even more speedlinealike! They will also have Compomotive cast into one of the spokes

Rear

Looks like they will be ~£725 all in delivered to your door, and will be going into production very shortly

As before they are available in silver, satin black, gold and white :)

Thanks for all the info guyz.

Scotsdave do you have any more details about the wheels you've shown. How much do they weigh? What tyre size would work with these wheels?

If I want these wheels who do I contact?

Also are the wheels pictured above the same as this wheel below (apart from the 4 stud fitment):

Unfortunately the thread didn't have any more details other than above.

You could give comp a call and ask to speak to Stephanie though?
