S2 induction kit? Any suggestions??
S2 induction kit? Any suggestions??
Hi,
I'm considering getting myself an induction kit for my S2 elise. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to get? I'm after any performance increases I can get but also just to get a nicer note from the engine!
Any info or ideas would be a great help. Thanks

I think most of the induction kits give noise but very little or no performance gain.
On that basis I think the K&N 57i has the best sound and is probably the cheapest.
There may be others that do offer a slight performance increase but they will be much more £ than a K&N and IMHO they don't sound as good.
If its a Yota stick with original as most of the bolt on induction available seem to give MIL issues. Fine for a K series though.

I can only speak of the one on mine and it sounds lurvely. Hurricane induction kit with the sports exhaust on it when I bought it. Couldn't comment on performance though. (dont think they give any despite the advert claims)
The only thing I would say is it's loud when sitting at 59.99mph. Shout to speak to the passenger loud.
Gav.

I think the general opinion, or at least Robins
is that the existing filter-box and 'induction' system on the S2 is pretty good, so the only thing you would need to do (to gain any performance, i.e 1 or 2 bhp) is change the air filter for a K+N or other performance/hi-flow panel filter.

No MIL issues whatsoever in 5 years and..... errr.... 7k miles so far

Don't think there are many/any performance gains but it does sound a bit better than standard and makes a good Darth Vader type Hissssssssssssss on startup

Re: S2 induction kit? Any suggestions??
i had a k sereis s2, i fitted a k+N 57i kit, cheap as chips, sounded beefy, and with the addition of a vvc inlet manifold and 52 mm throttle body it sounded immense, i would say the throttle response was a little sharper, but no major improvement, however, the noise was soo worth it!
cheap and easy job to do the above aswell, just make sure you position the induction pipe for the k+n properly - go on, you know you need to!

Apexi give the best filtration and the best sound IME.
Universal one with an adapter is around £50 off the bay of E.
It's all i ever use.

ITG Maxogen kit...Probably best one out there, but £350 and only really worth it if fitted with other engine mods...
Re: S2 induction kit? Any suggestions??
If it's a K, and if you want a proper performance increase that will actually put a smile on your face, save up your pennies and get the head ported with some larger inlet valves; if you combine it with the C service it'll probably only cost you 750 and the car will feel like a new one (150BHP from an otherwise standard engine).
If it's a Toyota engine I would avoid doing anything to it at all, other than getting the cam change point reprogrammed, and if you want more noise, change the back box (but leave the manifold and cat alone). I know that some people have no problems with induction kits, but plenty more do have "high idle speed, engine too lean" MIL issues and although there is no proof that induction kits are the source of the problem, there is at least a reasonable correlation between the two.
Cheers,
Robin

Robin is totally correct, I have seen 155bhp from a well ported head and 29.5mm inlet valves, with a K_+N filter, a good 1 1/2 in 4-2-1 exhaust will keep the top end and help the torque immeasurably
