Foam insert for toolcase

Post by campbell » Mon Aug 30, 2010 5:09 pm

I'm acquiring sockets and similar at an alarming rate, as I set out my road of discovery as an amateur Elise mechanic

I've got a plastic toolcase with a custom shaped inner (plastic also), which if I replaced with that kind of medium density grey foam you get in some packaging (eg computers etc), I could cut a lot more custom slots for all my various sockets, rachets, etc etc.

Anyone got any of this lying around? Or know where I might acquire some with much cheapness?

ta!

I think there's a foam company just behind the VW garage on Gorgie Rd in Edinburgh, I can't see it being expensice for what you need??

We use Buck & Hickman at work. If you're buying foam for this, it's a better idea to get some that's layered; 1/4" or so of black on top and a bright colour below. Makes it easier to spot what's missing. :thumbsup

Takes an age to do the job properly with a large crib, but just a suitcase type effort shouldn't be too bad. A router is your best bet for doing the cutting.

Costco foam flooring mats, about £10 for 6 sheets, and it's good for many uses - including kneeling mats, garage / car protection, furniture anti cratch protection, tool tray liners, packing, cut to fit footwell mats and also flooring - especially below the Scalectrix track.

plain brown wrapper?!

PS - when I collect I'll return your torque wrench after, oh, a year?!

LOL. Haven't heard it called SE2 for a long time.

Did you know there is some kind of SE3 emerging on that newfangled FazeBoock thingy?! Internet Generation. Never happy.

We get oodles of this stuff so if it's a hassle don't worry about it I'll deliver a garage full next week :D

Good spot Sanj - scarily enough there's a bunch of R710's on order as we speak!

Cheers
