Pop Rivet gun

Post by Sanjøy » Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:31 pm

Stage 1 of rad re-fit failed spectacularly tonight, as we need a pop rivet gun to fit the fan fitting kit onto the new rad :-(

Anybody got one of these in the C Scotland / Fife area that we could borrow soon-ish?

Ta!

Yours,

Sanjoy, you can buy one for about £10 :thumbsup

Always handy for next time

(that's why I think Mike will do fine, that and his lack of imagination).

I've one or two of them ... did the kit not also come with bolts? When I bought my kit from Yvo it came with rivets and bolts so that you could fit it without a rivet gun ...

Cheers,
Robin

It has bolts, but only 4, which are for the fan mounts. We think.

Campbell here - might need to arrange to pick up one of your rivet guns, tomorrow evening any good? Also need advice on a lower damper mount bolt which I may have managed to overtighten and strip a thread on...Great eh, you take your eye off us for 5 mins...

If you can get to a machine mart they are cheap, if you have the room go for a lazy tongs style, they are a damn sight easier!

I had to put in massive 1/4" pop rivets and broke the handles on my halfords cheapy but the lazy tongs jobbie didn't even break sweat :thumbsup

If I'm out I can leave it in the door way - need to take Katie and the boys to the airport this evening ... I need to find it first, but I've stumbled across it once or twice thinking, oh, that's where it is :-)

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. Re the lower damper mount, one of them was a bit iffy which is why I suggested changing the bolts all those years ago :-) Do you mean you might have stripped the thread on one of your new bolts? If so, you could reuse the old bolt from the other side in the short term.

Cheers,
Robin
