BMW X5 starter

Post by tut » Tue Nov 30, 2010 10:02 am

I need the info on how to change the starter motor from a 2006 3.0d Sport X5 for a friend.

Does anyone have a service manual for one, or a similar engined BMW, or have experience of changing one?

Cheers

I tried and failed to do one on an E39 3.0D , which should be the same as the X5

It unbolts from underneath on engine side of gearbox bell housing with two torx head bolts.
I had the car jacked up on the drive and could not reach the bolts .
I reckon a very long extension with swivel sockets is required.
That.......... and fingers of a midget to get the nuts off of the wiring side...

I would take it to a garage and get it on the ramp........and pay the prevailing labour rate for an expert to do it

:cheers
