MG-F HGF

Post by tut » Tue Dec 28, 2010 4:52 pm

Clare has just suffered a bad one, I know a couple of our members have MG-F's, so checking to see if it can be repaired the same as an Elise. I know the engine compartment is very tight, and the guy that just turned up via the AA said he thinks the engine has to come out.

She has P&L which would cover an Elise type repair, but not an engine out.

Allegedly can be done with the engine in situ. I think the soft top comes off and there is a larger access hatch which can be opened.

It's pretty much the same as the Elise. Slightly more awkward in some places and easier in others.

My better half used to have an MG TF which i think is more or less the same car. Head gasket was replaced with the engine still in situ and as already stated - the back panel and soft top come off to provide access.

From memory it was approx £650 all in from a local garage in Falkirk that I used to use.

Thanks guys, just checked with John Duthie as it went a few hundred yards from his garage and he said the same, the soft top and back panel are removed and with the labour rates that he charges me it will come in below the £500.
