Full beam shenanigans

Whilst driving along with my headlights on dip, any accelerating, braking or bumps in the road, with no help from me, my full beam is turned on and off repeatedly. While I didn't really care too much due to the mediocre lighting, the police pulled me over and asked why I was flashing at them and told me to get it fixed pronto.

I'm sure it's a loose connection or wire somewhere and although a gentle nudging of the stalk calms it briefly, I can't drive around at night with one hand constantly trying to find the balance point so it doesn't go into flashing mayhem mode.

Any suggestions for a quick fix?

I had similar symptums before all be it on a Peugeot which was cured by a new switch
I know the S1 switch is a Vauxhall item and about £10 from a Vauxhall world.com £25 the pair delivered rather than the Vauxhall Lotus dealer ~ although I dont know if its the same switch on an S2

Indicator stalk 01/09181010; Vaux Astra, Calibra,Cavalier, Combo and Corsa @£9.42

Wiper Stalk 01/90243394; Vauxhall Agila, Astra,Cavalier,Combo and Tigra @£12.99

both prices a couple of years old I'd guess
