Tried to start my Porker today with jump leads (been over 3 months since last used) and it turned over once then died. Can battery go so flat it needs replaced?

Yup, happened to mum's Kan-go on christmas day; wheelchair ramp finished it off. We tried it with leads for a while as well. She'd not used it in weeks due to the weather.

Got her a solar trickle charger on order, £12 from Maplin. :thumbsup

That has happened to me with the merc if left long enough.. like 3 months or so.
When it happens I need to connect a charger to the merc battery for a few hours then try again with the jump leads and it seems to work fine and the car then runs fine for months .............. until the next time.

Any Garage can check the cells with a battery tester (if you can get it started)
Elise battery fell victim to the sub zero temperatures and was replaced yesterday :cheers

I use an Optimate which can recover a dead battery. If you're local to me you're welcome to borrow it before forking out for a new battery.

I now have the Exige on trickle charge 24x7 via the cigarette lighter socket which is plug n' play.

Don't know how old the car is but batteries only last 4 or 5 years. After that, regardless of how often you drive the car one (or many) cold/seriously cold nights will kill it completely. The lifespan isn't helped though if it's left over a long period of cold without being used.

Doesn't matter now though as you've bought a sexy lightweight (and hopefully carbon-tat-crozier-tastic) replacement :thumbsup

Yup, my Elise's battery did just this: wouldn't take charge at all.

I often found with the Exige, if it didn't jump start straight away, leave it connected to the other car (with engine running) for 5 - 10 minutes to build up some charge and try again. Worked every time, and with my neighbours car when he got a flat battery. I always suspected my battery was goosed but never replaced it in two years! Would sit for 10 days max before the car wouldn't start.

Now me too. As I had been driving it everyday it was helping keepign teh battery going, but after a couple of weeks of cold and not running except to heat it up in the winter, the battery is completely goosed. Looking up a replacement as we speak.

EDIT: spat me tea out when I saw the price! Any recomendations on palces to get cheap but good batteries? Halfords were from 70-100 quid.

AGAIN: Eurocar parts look pretty good for batteries. Their website won't let me search by type though which is a problem as they list the wrong battery based on car details.

Yep, got my last two for N1 and N3 from http://www.thebatteryguys.co.uk/vehicle_filters/522847 for £39 each inclusive of VAT and delivery. Even got the VAT back as disabled.

Quality and performance are excellent.

Ferg may be worth investing in one of these which will keep your battery good, mines been one for nearly two years and I've had no hassles with it.

That looks good. I've got one of the maplin solar jobbies which I was going to mount in the garage window. It's not as full featured as that though.

BTW got a battery from Euro Car Parts for £35 with 3yr guarantee. nice. :D
