S2 soft top weather seal.

Post by CubanGav » Wed Jan 12, 2011 5:11 pm

My original seal is both ripped and now bodged with adhesive  Everything else is aligned properly, windows etc, so I'm hoping this:

http://www.deroure.com/partinfo.asp?MAK ... PBID=37990

makes me waterproof. I've kindly got the use of a mates garage on Saturday to change it. Usual story with me is I have no idea what I'm doing  so does anyone have any advice, done it before etc? The new one did come with adhesive already on it - sticky back plastic style - but where its been bent to fit in the packaging its covering has come away. Only small sections of about 5mm but if I was inclined to help it stick what should I use? (As mentioned I've had a bash at re-sticking the original but I must not be using the right stuff because it just came away again, and looks terrible, and still leaks.....)

Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Gav.

Tiger seal seems to be the VX boys choice to help it stick. Clean the area well after removal of the old seals. Loads off info on http://www.vx220.org with pics etc as people has used the lotus not vx seals.

Is it the newer Lotus S2 seal you're putting on? (which has little cup like bits at the top window corner)

Report back once you're done, i've got one to fit to the VX.

From what I remember, make sure you clean off the old adhesive really well, including any bodge work that may have been added over the years, and if the sticky tape that's attached to the seal doesn't work, pull out the tiger seal...

I'm sure there was a tutorial on vx220.org for fitting this seal to a VX, i'd imagine same rules apply for an Elise.

Aye its the newer one with the A pillar drains. Looks like it should do the trick.

I've been looking for some tiger seal but fleabay sellers are quoting a week or two for delivery :(

I've looked for the guide you mention but it seems vx220.org has been updated and the older posts are gone.

I'll have a go and let you know how I get on.

Loctite 382 adhesive also was used by a vx220 member.

You'll get a tube of tiger seal from your local factors. I used it for one of my hardtop seals and it's awesome stuff just be aware it goes off quickly.

Didnt manage to get any. Got some silicone/adhesive stuff which shoulg be good to fill in any gaps in the glue. It may be perfect without any but belt and braces an all that jazz.
