Scottish Elises

I've not seen anyone report this before and I've looked through loads of posts to check!

I wonder if anyone can help.

I've had my Elise S2 parked up over the past 2 months (only in the drive, not garaged) due to the snow.

I had been starting it up and allowing it to warm up etc. I went for a period where I didnt get a chance to start it and obviously the battery died. I jump started it and no problems! However, I went to the car this morning to take it out for a run: it it started first time although the odometer has went from reading somewhere in the region of 17000 miles to reading 860000 miles!

I spoke to Lotus and I have it booked in but wondered if anyone had ever seen a similar problem or could suggest a DIY fix?

I have no idea of a fix, but can you be sure you knew where the keys were all the time it was not in use?

that was my first thought! My girlfriend was the only one who had access to the keys and I'm sure I'd have noticed if she'd been able to clock up all those miles... the car would have been written off!

My S1 had dashboard woes not long after I got it (from new) mileage jumped from 1200 to 20k + and then died altogether.
Stack was replaced under warranty -not sure if it was unrepairable or if it was just cheaper/quicker to replace at the time.

I've never heard of anyone successfully correcting the mileage on the Stack dash so I guess the dealers will just replace it with a new one. Bend over!!!

My advice would be to try and find a second hand one with the same sort of mileage on. Saves all the hassle of incorrect mileage and it will be considerably cheaper.

p.s. It actually happens quite a lot and is yet another reason why you shouldn't jump start these cars.

KANDDL had his mileage altered after it jumped up from 20k to 80K one morning.

It was done by a company in Glasgow for about £50 - no problems after and no other issues with the Stack.

He had an S2 too.

Send me a PM and I will put you in touch with him. He no longer has his Elise but I am still in contact with him.

Maybe easier on the S2 Shurlock job, rather than the genuine Stack item on the S1?

Certainly, as far as I knew, anyone who'd tried to get an S1 dash corrected had hit a brick wall with it and ended up sticking a 2nd hand one in.

Some of the S2s have Stack units some have Shurlock units and the later ones are made by someone else.

I have tried with both S1 and S2 Stack units but not a Shurlock one. Even Stack themselves can't do their units.

Sorry mate I can't remember if it was a stack unit or not, ..it is whatever was in a 111r in 2004.

Pretty sure it was only the early s2's that had Stack - think the change happened before the engine swap to Toyota

I'm guessing from the above quote that this is maybe caused by jump starting the car when the battery died? How is this possible when all your doing is effectively putting a different battery in the loop?

Thanks for all the comments. Its in at Lotus just now. I'll see what the outcome is (hopefully doesnt cost me too much) It is still under warranty as I only bought it in September last year so I'll see what they say. If it is going to cost me though I'll definitely look out for a 2nd hand one!
