Small fan required - maybe one for the bikers?

Post by Rich H » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:39 pm

Hey all,

One for the bikers:
I'm after a small fan so I can get some airflow through the oil coolers on the Esprit in traffic.
It's got 3 massive fans on the rad but nothing for the oil coolers and the oil temp seems to get a bit high.

It needs to be as small as practical (4" to 6" maybe) but still a rad fan as they can cope with road grime (Unlike computer case fans and the like)

I was thinking a motorbike/scooter rad fan but I have no idea where to start, ebay is no good as they aren't listed by size!

Any thoughts on which bikes to look at or any other sources?

thanks
Rich

Rich I have just got one for my motocross / supermoto conversion they have very small side mount rads and as motocross are fine but in supermoto form in traffic they can overheat therefore they fit one fan and cowl to one side ( on my husky 510 ) the fan is not part of the cowl but screws on and is 4 inch dia

Had a look at mine and the fan is just under 5 inches. Most trials bikes are similar so you can look for Sherco, Beta, Gas Gas ,Scorpa and Montesa for a start. Also as you can see my radiator is marked as KTM so I'm guessing some motocross ones might be of use.

Disappointed you're not fashioning a solution using spraybars, a pop bottle and a miniature steam engine, TBH....

Cheers all, will have poke about.

 @ McGuiver

Is it wrong that I was a bit sad that the Esprit seems to be working and the list of things to fix is almost done....

Things left:
Paint (Got my paint correction kit on the way from Polished Bliss)
Wheels (No fun just cost)
Rear tyres (Ditto)
I'll see about fitting this fan and I also want a boost gauge.

After that it seems to be OK... supposed I'll have to drive it a bit more...

Mind you the Porker gearbox needs swapping, that'll keep me busy... Then I have my eyes on my dads old HVLP spray kit to repspray the Porker too...

Me too, If I ever get a big lottery win* I'm going to give Rich a couple of million, just to see what he builds.
