Tyre wear.

Post by pete » Tue May 17, 2011 5:55 pm

I have about 2mm left on the tyres at the front (R888s). OK the wear markers are just about flush on the worst one.

How much is a day at Oulton going to leave me with. None right?

This is a stupid question isn't it? There is a set of Kumos in the garage I should probably get those on instead???

No amount of tread will help in druids but some would be better than none when it rains heavily ;-)

If the rears are OK I have a set of used 888 fronts in the garage (I accumulate more sets of fronts than rears for obvious reasons and never end up using them as I cannot persuade myself to leave for Frolic with half worn tyres and pretty much never buy any tyres at any other time).

If you're interested I will get accurate tread depth measure across the width of the tyres.

Cheers,
Robin

I am the same Pete, have plenty on the front, and the rears are about 2-3 mm after the last spa. Was planning a 2 hr knockhill session to kill them off....

I may end up getting a set of Khumo v70's fitted to try on the way down, so will have a pair of good fronts with me....asuming i get on track.

you'll be fine. Much better to go into the gravel on the outside of druids frontways, rather than the armco on the inside backwards

Problem is not the track Pete, but that you have to drive home on legal tyres which yours will not be.

Often at KH if Ronnie is there we order replacements from him to drive home on after wearing the others out, but not sure of the routine at OP.

I once nipped over to Demon Tweeks in Wrexham for a set of 888s the day before an Oulton trackday. About 25 miles away. They appear to have lots of tyres in stock but best to call first. You would obviously need to get there during working hours and preferably on day before if you have time as would maybe take too big a chunk out of lunch to go on the day. Could also check with MSV if they have a tame mobile tyre fitter that could pick up tyres and come to circuit.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Local place has some in stock but was trying to avoid 250 quid bill. Think I might just be being cheap... Will phone OP tomorrow and see if they have a guy on site.

Pete, checked tyres last night, all in good condition and will easily last a day at Oulton Park.

I've already tried to warn Pete that my old car CANNOT go round druids in a straightline. I fully expect to be picking up the pieces of fiberglass and helping him gaffa it back together by lunchtime. Sorry pete :damnfunny

So who's the bookies favourite?? I'm not a betting man, but i think we should start a book on this.

Its dry, so there shouldnt be toooooo much carnage, but Druids always springs a surprise.

Andy - the R400 has had a taste for the armco, will it fancy another bite?? Anywhere involving armco 5-1

Robin - He's sensible and well informed, but EGOR has a score to settle with bikeR, so will the car get carried away? spin at lodge 10-1

Me - not my car, so should be taking it easy, but i've been out of cars for a while so i'm out of practise, plus there is always the toe link risk. Island bend 7-1

Stu - hasnt got a place yet, but may try to make up for lost time when he does get out on track. Its a VX, so he should hit the armco nose first 12-1

Pete - OP newbie, the car is relatively new to him, and the car is set up to favour a lunatic. Rear ender in druids 1-5

let betting commence :damnfunny

So, Bookie-Ape, What are the odds for betting who won't bin it, and make it home in one piece?
