MOT undertray removal

I just dropped the exige of for its MOT and was told that the MOT now requires undertray removal, which should be done by the owner before delivering the car. They agreed to do it for me no doubt for a small fee.

Might be worth asking if you need to do this when booking.

Not 2 weeks ago when I got mine done. Take it somewhere else.

Did you ensure they knew how to jack it up?!?! Not many garages do....

I was told at mine, that the computer printout for the car does list that 'owner must remove all undertrays'

Needless to say that bit of paper was used to wipe the dipstick

My MOT was Vauxhall/Masterfit garge in Cupar, there is also reportedly a freindly MOT station round there too, passed a mates rally car with its hydraulic handbrake.

Bit of a paradox here as wouldn't the car fail the MOT with all it's undertrays missing? sharp edges exposed etc..

Nah - you seen some of the edges exposed underneath the average family hatch?

I've never head of anyone having to take undertrays off before.

No, it's definately new. Is listed on the instructions from the computer when you choose the car you're testing. Saw it with my own eyes - I guess (like mine) most MOT testers will disregard it as rediculous to ask the customer to pull of the trays before coming in.

S1 deffo can... Was originally going to be a option, but they couldn't get the car through drive-by noise regs without it.

I thought it was the diffuser that was the option not the undertray as such.

Bit of a grey area as one writer might call the whole shebang an undertray or a diffuser (if he's confused!)

You can run it without either though - IIRC Steve Butts does (and reports lower oil temps as a result.)

IIRC The only structural bit down there is the fuel tank shear panel, the one with the holes in. the rest is just for aerodynamics/noise/kitty-litter
