Immobiliser

Post by basil » Fri Sep 30, 2011 3:10 pm

Does anyone know how to bypass an S1 exiges immobiliser as my car is stuck in the works car park failing to turn over. Fuel pump is priming and I have tried jumping the car from my Jeep but still no joy so I now suspect the immobiliser.

Hate to be boring, but as tech is public, can we ensure that the solution is sent via PM. I'm aware there's little issue with it being in the public domain, but just in case it worries someone.

It would worry me. A little.

What would worry me more is that, if the fuel pump is priming, then I *think* this means the immobiliser has been correctly disarmed, and so the problem lies elsewhere.

However Robin is our resident expert for this I reckon, so hopefully he'll have a couple of diagnostic steps to share publicly - these are certainly in everyone's interest :-)

Good luck with the fix, basil.

Yep, only skim read the post - if the pump is priming, you're looking elsewhere. Starter motor spinning or not?

If the starter is not turning over then you can force the starter to turn using a bit of wire.

Ignition on, immob disarmed, IN NEUTRAL, handbrake on.

Identify the starter motor.

Remove the small lead that's connected a 6 o'clock if looking from rear.
Use wire to connect the spade terminal this reveals to the big stud at 9 o'clock (i.e. closest to the back of the car).

This *will* make the starter turn. If all other conditions are good, the engine will start.

Cheers,
Robin

I would have thought if the starter was goosed I would still of heard the click of a relay as it tried to spin it.

Starter could be ok...maybe it's the relay that's goosed :-)

Maybe so, but did you try the hot wire trick above to make it turn? You can worry about _why_ it doesn't work the way it should when you get it home :-)

Not tried the hot wire yet as it will be to late once I finish. The relay is fine as it was swapped with the fuel pump relay and the pump primed as normal.

I had a similar issue last week, which I thought might have been due to jump starting it to get the car running ie somehow the immob would not allow the car to restart when I stopped for fuel. I reset the car several times, opened and close the engine cover. It then fired up and I haven't had a repeat.

If the pump is priming or trying to then it wouldn't sound like the immob.

I have had fuel issues ie difficulty priming the fuel pump, in hot weather or if on low fuel. So make sure it's got a good couple of gallons in it and open and close the fuel cap just incase the heat has caused some sort of airlock.

I would suggest if bypassing the immob sorted it, then look at the wiring in the immob multiplug as the easiest route before the unit itself - I'd assume if the immobiliser stopped working, it'd take everything down at once, but as you'll be aware, the wiring is separate to fuel pump and starter. However, something you'll be able to check at leisure now.

Apparently it is common for the alarm unit and immobiliser to lose communication which cannot easily be restored so I will just wire in a proper bypass and sort out a new independant immobiliser.
