Where to get my ride heights / geo / camber done Aberdeen

Post by Jam_s160 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:41 am

My recently purchased s160 (now my 3rd s1). Previous s1's I've had both s1 Exige or 340r geos which were great... My s160 I've got feels very unsettled and the back end steps out very easily on long sweeping bends between 50-70mph. The front right inner tyre is very worn compared to rest. I had a rear blown LSS shock to.

So I've fitted new Nitrons SS shocks, reset ride heights, clicked the dampers to what I like and the car feels alot better... But it's still nervious compared to what I expect.

So next up is a decent geo and get the cambers checked.

Any recommendations for north east Scotland? I'm used to using Steve Williams down London way for previous tech needs.

Clark Motorsport in Kintore. They have a haunter 4 wheel alignment rig and more importantly know how to use it :thumbsup . They charge about £75 for the geo and then per hour for any changes made for elises.

I was charged £10 + vat per adjustment on the discovery, but they do charge per hour if they come up against seized nuts, bolts etc

Do they know much about elises or will I need to go in with all my measurements for them to work from?

Buy your own camber shims before you go if you want anything done more complicated than toe.

It will save you time and money if you set the ride height yourself if you haven't already. (edit- you have though :thumbsup )

They've done a few Elises now.

Ps - It wont be cheap.

They will set it to what ever you want and the Hunter rig has all the elise settings stored on it. Just tell them what you want. They charge hourly for elises due to the amount of adjustments possible and the time it takes freeing bolts etc.

Thanks folks for the replies, will book some time in and try them out... Will get some shims in advance just in case and set ride heights myself... Just deciding on 340r or S1 Exige geo... Hmmm?

I'll report back on how I get over next couple of weeks...

Compare the two together James, you obviously have the experience, would not have thought that there was much difference. I used to use a more aggressive setting as regards camber when I was competing, but for a mix of road and track, N1 and N3 are on 340R settings.

Yup think I will go 340r as that's what I've got my ride heights set too just now. I found (when down south) the extra clearance from Exige was useful for speed humps that were placed everywhere. Other than that I never noticed much difference other than less bottoming out probably.

This might seem a daft question but can you ask if they will let you sit in it while they take the measurements. (Or put a James size bag of rocks in the drivers seat).

Gav.

 I was being serious. Not about the rocks but definitely about sitting in it. Half to make sure its set right and half to make sure they don't faf about.
Not sure if they would let you actually suit in it. I'm sure a health and safety rule of some sport would mean you can't.

weather or not to ballast the car to account for the driver is a whole different topic. With my S1 I did it both ways once with and once without and couldn't tell the difference.
