Rev limiter on at 6200rpm, no 2nd cam?

Post by LotusLee » Wed Oct 26, 2011 3:07 pm

Just had my car serviced today but on the way home as soon as I tried to go on 2nd cam it hit the rev limiter at 6200rpm, annoyingly I was just about home so looks like another 130 mile round trip back to MMC  The car has never done this before, has anyone had similar? The only thing picked up in the service was the oxygen sensor on the exhaust was a tad slack and needed tightened, not sure if that could be anything to do with it. cheers

Check the oil level first.

And get on the blower to Craig, he'll probably have a list of things to try first to save you a journey.

Have you tried switching it off and switching it back on again? (Seriously)

My exige did this after I jump started it. It was the cam switch fuse??? in the engine bay. There are two small black plastic fuse boxes on the bulkhead. think its the one on the left. Im sure its in the owners manual.

Yup as mike says fuse on the bulkhead in the engine compartment on the passenger side.

Cheers for the replies. Craig phoned me back and said the car might have been given 4.5litres of oil rather than 4 and that would cause these symtoms. When I checked the oil though it was only a couple of mm above max and the car has been back to normal since with no sign of oil leak. Hopefully it has sorted itself out and won't be an intermittent thing .
p.s I take it if the cam switch fuse goes it is a constant no 2nd cam and not intermittent?

Not sure Lee. It did it once so I changed the fuse. It never did it again

If the fuse is blown it won't go on second cam at all :thumbsup
