Assistance needed - Locking wheel nut key

Post by j2 lot » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:02 am

Aargh I really should know better but never got around to ditching the locking bolts and predictably the key is gubbed. So does anyone in or around Glasgow / Lanarkshire have either a removal tool or key number :
83244347
that I can borrow at short notice - ideally a.m. tomorrow (Sunday)
Please PM or text on 07884 380 133.
Thanks in anticipation

If you hammer a socket on Keith you will be surprised how easy they come off

Mike (now lost 2 lock nut keys  )

Was going to try that Mike but didn't have a socket the right size so that is the plan but thought that if anyone has the right kit it would be easier - I presume you just go down a socket size from the correct wheel bolt size ?

Can't remember if i went down a size or maybe used a imperial socket now.

Won't work on lock nuts where the outside spins obviously.

Was just going to post that, I got impatient and whacked one on Holly's corsa and after 5 mins of turning and nothing I realised the fatal error. Let's say a lot of banging, angle grinders, skint knuckles and 4 hours later the wheel was off.

Feel for you, but every time this comes up it is a reminder to get rid of the bloody things before they immobilise you.

Yup my own fault  I have removed them on previous cars but never got around to getting new ( non locking) bolts so they were still on.

Bought a Laser spiral socket set this afternoon on my way into work.Just got home and - they don't fit  and to top it off my first speeding ticket for 20 years on the bike when I was going to get them. £60 & 3 points, £22 for the sockets and no further forward. NOT BEEN A GOOD DAY

Car currently has 3 standard wheels/ tyres and 1 winter rim/tyre.

Cheers Nizzy. Wheel bolts - round top with 'pattern' cut into the end - if that makes sense. !

As you were chaps, thanks for advice and offers of help.
Cross Garage in Stonehouse came up trumps and removed the locking nuts. :thumbsup
Owner is an ex -neighbour ,so gave him a call this morning and he got it sorted, even gave me the key to his 61 plate Range Rover to nip back home to get the wheel so they could change it rather than have to go home to do it myself. Great service :thumbsup
