Floor Corrosion....!

I have just checked my floor pan and pulled up the rubber mats...
Quite a bit of corrosion and a bit of pitting but no holes. My car was registered in 08/08/97, ie out side the 8 year corosion warranty...

Anyone got similar problems? If you don't know, check now!

Any ideas about stopping this through DIY methods? I'm going to book into Murrays and see what thet say.

I was considering just DIY-ing it anyway, I'll have a chat with our painters here and se what they can offer. Any ideas anyone?

Lotus should still fix it - technically, although you didn't report it within the 8 year period, it must have started before the 8 years was up.

Try Murrays - sure they'll be happy to help an SE'er :)

I had mine done at Murrays in Glasgow. They were able to establish that I needed two new floors without taking the bonded mat off, now that's clever! It did take a full day to establish though. They then had the car for three days to bond in the new floor, which wasn't bonded when I got it back but by then I decided that if I wanted it done properly I would do it myself. They did offer though but by that time I was thouroughly P****d off.
I would contact lotus and see if you can get a couple of pannels off them and do it yourself.

Going away for the weekend (By train! BOO!) so I'm going to leave it to dry out and see what its like. A good scrub would probably help, probably try scotchbright or similar to shift the ali-chloride white stuff. Murrays say bring it in and they will see what they can do, but I might just go for DIY, bit suspicious of the Lotus solution to be honest. I will contact Lotus direct and see what they have to say.

Stephen: did they give you the new mats?

Cheers gents.

I did get "mats" they were just bits of gash carpet cut to shape, although they did firt the nice alloy retaining screws. They were stuck on with silicone but I will need to redo them properly with araldite.
I would speak to Murrays and either get them to do it or get them to get you the bits from lotus
