Brake Pads and Anti Rattle

Post by mikeyb13 » Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:25 pm

Planning on fitting some Ally belled discs in the next week or so. Was planning on getting CL 5+ pads as they seem to be well regarded, but was considering the rc6 as they will be used for Track/Fast runs only. Planning on putting "normal" brakes on for day to day use. Any thoughts?

Was also looking at anti-rattle solution as the noise drives me crazy, not sure if Im being stupid but Elise Shop and Elise Parts seem to have very different solutions. One is buffers and the other a plate.

Again opinions sought?

I would never go near the RC6's again. I fitted them to new discs and they destroyed them in less than two track days.

Bought RC5's next time.

Sure Im not as hard as you on the brakes mate, thats some going. RC5s it is.
Always had pagid blues in the past but they just dont seem to bite as quick on the s1.
How do you find the RC5s in comparison?

Hopefully improving the discs will do the trick then.
Probably learning to stamp on the brake pedal and flinging it into corners will help too.
Dont seem to have a problem going round corners fast or getting a bit twitchy on exit just cant seem to change braking learned 20 years of driving on the road.

Had buffers on UJI for years. Supplied by MMC actually, I think! Or maybe in a box of Pagids back in the day...

I've got RC5+ and bought anti rattle buffers from EP to stick on. Turns out I get very little pad rattle and haven't had to fit them. I did spend a bit of time fitting the pad retaining clips carefully. If you want to see/hear what they're like, I'm not that far away.

Brake Pads and Anti Rattle

Post by SAJ » Sat Feb 25, 2012 5:48 pm

I had anti rattle pads fitted to my RC5+, never ever heard them rattle.

I need new pads now and have heard that sticking RC5+ on the front and RC6 on the rear improves the brake balance on the Europa.

Never had a complaint about the RC5+ pads, would recommend them to anyone.
