Brake pads...

Post by Jordan » Thu Mar 08, 2012 2:43 pm

I got new rear break pads fitted in december on my s2, it has been off the road since jan, i took it for a quick spin around the block the other day and when i breaked it sounded like the pads were rubbing on the discs and both front and rear pads have plenty life on them.... Anyone know what this could be ?

It'll just be from lack of use. Give it a decent run and it'll be fine

As neil says, it is most likely dirt/rust.

As Neil says, give it some rough love on a clear road, up to 60 and brake hard a few times.

Where do you store your car, Jordan?

If garaged, then in the last half mile before home, especially if it's damp, do some (careful!) left foot braking to heat up the disks a little. This reduces the likelihood of corrosion binding the pads upon cooling.

Also park with handbrake off (assuming fairly level ground) with gear engaged.

If not garaged, there isn't much you can do other than get it out for a drive periodically. What a chore ;-)

And if it should find itself out of the garage, then it's in our drive :-)
