There have been a few posts on "How To" recently so thought that it would be useful posting this link again that covers most situations, and usual has full pictorials. The link is to SELOC who put it together.
It looks as if I may be able to rebuild my broken fuel filler cap by ordering a Jeep one and swapping parts over.
