Water in plug bores-update

Post by vet111s » Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:03 am

Ok, so maybe first drive on Friday 13th wasn't such a hot idea especially after not driving it for 5 months.
With the aid of jump leads it was turning over really well and very nearly catching at times. No actual catch though.
So I checked for water in the plug bores and it's pretty wet in there. Is it simply a case of removing as much water as possible and liberal use of wd40 or is there something more complicated I'm going to need to do/use p&l for?

Tia

Ok, frustrating update. Dried and cleaned bores as best I can (with a urinary catheter, 10ml syringe and can of compressed gas). New battery, just for good measure. All put back together and still no luck.
Fuel pump primes normally, engine turns over strongly but just won't catch. Occasionally sounds like it might catch but ultimately nothing.
Anything else a special needs home mechanic could try or best to get the AA on the case. (I have p&l)

Cheers

I'd try adding some fresh fuel, especially if it's looking low and has been sitting for some time.

I had a similar problem and found my distributor cap to be full of water and gunk replaced both the rotor and cap and it was all fixed

Am thinking along both of these lines, along with the coil packs possibly being knackered (there was a fair amount of rust on one of them when I pulled it to dry everything out). Going to get AA out this afternoon on the basis I could spend more money and a good bit more time and still be no further forward.
At least with p&l most of that expenditure will hopefully be recoupable.
Thanks, will keep you updated

If it's a 111S (going by user name) then it's got no distributor/rotor arm.

Aa out just now. No luck yet. Apparently the sparking is poor so far.

Doh. Not that then.

Poor sparks could be coil packs then, check the plugs to the coil packs are OK but they do die eventually.

leads are a 12 months service item in my books. OEMs really deteriorate.

Ok, so towing post broke trying to tow out of the drive. Managed to push on to road. Now awaiting low loader for a trip to MMC.
Thanks for all the input.
Have got p&l so hopefully this isn't going to hurt too much!

Cheers Dom
Know MMC will look after it. Anxiety now is getting it on to the low loader using the wishbones.
