Exhaust back box - yet again!

Post by bergwerk » Fri Apr 27, 2012 8:35 pm

In the aftermarket for the first time to buy a new silencer.

Looked at the usual suspects but looking for some feedback and recommendations.

My elise s does get a lot of motorway miles, and I don't track it all that much, and I have friends to converse with on the way.

Are you also in the market for a back box?

I got a 2bular from kev (abz elise) because I thought I had a heavy standard exhaust but it turns out I had a lotus sport backbox. Liking the 2bular however but think most noise coming from decat. I have an S1 but loads more S2 clips on youtube.

Thanks, I've ordered a 2bular now too - decided to support the Scottish economy so I hope it's worth it!

Was there a good weight saving in the end? The back box on my car Is 14kg plus! (heavier than my mountain bike being welded to the cat')

Sorry - just noticed this.

I've got a 2bular 7 x 22 on my 'yota S - think it's around 6 or 7 kg IIRC?

In the end no weight saving for me but would be about 10kg lighter than standard. I don't think you'll be fisappointed with the 2bular.

Instead of a Pfffft, it's more a BWAAAAA.

<BG>

/serious answer, I think they are lovely and fruity, without droning on constant throttle. As with most exhausts, will also get deeper as they soot up internally.

Have to agree with Shug. Difficult to describe in any more detail, but I'd also say it produces a nice "burble" at town speeds and on throttle lift-off/overrun, and a pleasing "pop" when pressing on through the gears when it's warmed up (also capable of producing the odd very loud "POP" if you short shift on fullish throttle when warm :)). I'd also add in reference to your initial post, that there'd be no problem having a conversation with a passenger if you're at motorway cruising speed in top gear (at least not with the 7 x 22 - not sure what size of silencer you've ordered). Only regret I've had is that I waited 18 months before I bought it. My original post when I bought the 2bular is here http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... =2&t=20057

Cheers guys :thumbsup

Should be any day now before I receive the back box. Ally - i've ordered a 7x22 silencer but with the oval tailpipe instead of the twin tailpipes as i'm used to the look of the sc exhaust on my S.

i will report back as soon as i get the thing and shove it on!

well its been a month now guys, but no sign of the exhaust yet!

getting a bit tired of waiting with no update - especially as ive been emailing Jim!

i'm now seriously looking at getting an eliseparts silencer as it can be re-packed and seems a good quality bit of kit.

Has anyone got one of these they can share their experience with me?

Finally got the exhaust yesterday!

First impressions were just what i had expected - very shiny, much lighter than std, nice & neat welding.

ripped off the old one at 10.40, new one on, back in at 11.45, so a doddle to fit.

a bit of boominess at 4000rpm at the moment, but hopefully when i give it a longer drive and get more heat into it that acoustafil should be more effective as it expands.

very nice, glad i never bought Larini because if internet vid's are anything to go by - they'll be way too loud for me. this one's at the limit but quite good at cruising speeds (unless sitting at 4k)

ciao
