Fitting probax seats in an early S2?

Having a right carry on today! Fitted a harness bar this morning which was fun! :chainsaw and then I set about the obviously simple task of swapping my seats for a nice pair of probax ones out of a 2008 exige.

Turns out the probax's are not quite the same size as the standard seats despite looking like identical in shape. After a couple of hours with various sharp and pointy tools I eventually got the seats to fit the subframe. However, while I can now get the front holes of the subframe to line up with the holes in the car, the rears are not even close! There are a couple of spare holes in the car that look like they might be for a different subframe.

Do I need the probax subframe and will it then bolt right in?

Also with the harness bar and probax fitted the seat doesn't go back as far as before. I can just about get away with that but I suspect it's because the seat needs tilting up a bit also.

Anyone done this before?

Hi Dipper,

I have retro fitted the Carbon Lotus Sport Hans seats from the Exige Cup and 211 cars. They came with a special set of Lotus Sport sub-frames so I'd imagine you would also need these for the later style Probax ones with the harness holes. As far as I remember you still use the same chassis mounting holes as the standard S2 seats (my car is an MY2005) however from memory I still had to get the hacksaw out to make the new sub-frame fit on the driver side. Pax was fine.

The different chassis holes you describe will be for LHD cars possibly....

Where are you? - you are welcome to look at my car if you are near Glasgow.

Cheers,

John

The seat runners you need for the later probax seats are A120B0155F for the drivers seat and A120B0168F for the passenger seat. The Probax and sports seat share a common runner these numbers being the later type. The side mounts that dictate the slop of the seat are different from the S1 and early S2 with the standard seats. DeRoure lists them as £101 for the drivers and £28 for the passenger but I remember them being cheaper than that when I bought a replacement for the drivers seat in the 2-11. Worth a call to Craig for prices and to double check the above part numbers.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but I don't think the seat goes as far back with a harness bar fitted as it does with out.
