After the TT12 trackday on Friday, my car has developed a tapping sound which appears to be coming from the front passenger side tyre area, increasing tempo in line with the speed of the car (until the engine gets too loud).
The only thing that makes it stop is if I touch the brake, even slightly.
I'm no mechanic, it is my first elise and I've only had it a month or so, so thought I'd post a query to see if anyone had any idea of the most likely issues before I start investigating at the weekend…
Thanks for any comments/pointers
Tapping sound around front wheel
Re: Tapping sound around front wheel
Brake pad rattling. That one did have brake pad buffer pads in at one stage but they'll long have burnt off. The pads are slightly too wee when cold so move about (and don't bind when they get hot)
You can get rubber buffer pads and put them inside the callipers where the edges of the pad touch, or do what I did and ignore it.
PS - enjoying it?

Re: Tapping sound around front wheel
Pressing the brake pedal is the clue.
Fairly common occurrence, just the pad chattering a bit in the caliper, I don't bother and it normally goes away, but you could fit new backing strips which would cure it.

ps:- get some work in you idle bugger, who do you think you are, me?

Re: Tapping sound around front wheel
Had the same problem myself after Spa.
Got a big piece of anti-squeal pad from my local motor factors for a £1.50 and cut them to size. Piece of cake mate, gimme a shout of you want a hand.
Got spare discs and pads here you can try too if the anti rattle pads dont work.

Re: Tapping sound around front wheel
Cheers for the advice. Had been going with the 'drive faster and block out the noise' idea until the weekend so thats good news that it sound fairly straight forward.
Re: Tapping sound around front wheel
You can eliminate a lot of the rattle by fitting the pad retaining springs in such a way to promote keeping the pads in place. The springs can sometimes be put on the wrong way up too which doesn't help either. Dead easy to take the pads in and out so you should have a look. Some of mikeys stuff cut to make pad buffers would be perfect if you can't get the springs sorted.
