Petrol smell

Post by cheezus » Mon Jul 30, 2012 10:05 pm

Hi

I'm getting a smell of petrol inside the cab when at full throttle, speaking to Gourlay he thinks this may be a common problem, but is unsure of a fix? Any ideas guys? It's a 111s S2.

With roof on or off or both?

If it's with roof off there is some chance you could be dragging exhaust fumes back into the cabin (more of a problem with S1s and no rear windscreen, but still possible).

If it's with roof on then it's more likely to be a fuel breather type issue, assuming the engine bay doesn't smell of fuel all the time ... I damaged the O ring on my fuel rail once and that certainly made a petrol smell everywhere ... so it's worth sniffing around the engine bay whilst it is idling and then again when you snap the throttle open/closed (just move the quadrant by hand). I would also check the air filter is not clogged and that the breathers from cam cover to inlet manifold (there are two) are secure.

Cheers,
Robin

I had this on my first S2 and thought it was the charcoal canister
The fuel cap was the fault- does it hiss when you take it off?

Same as Iain's issue with my S1. But I love the smell of unleaded in the morning so have never done anything about it. No way I get any sustained fuel smells in the cabin however. Only when coming to a halt, and with window down, generally.
