ad07 tyre alternative?

Hi folks,
Just got quoted £434 by Murray's for a pair of ad07 rears! Wowzers that is only £100 less than I paid for a set of 4 bridgestones re50's on my s2000, also custom compound like the elise, not to mention the fronts were bigger than the Elise rears... what's going on?
So what are my options? The car is a new shape Elise SC (think the rears are a little wider than the S2, not sure).
- bite the bullet and just get the ad07 lts, then wait till they wear at the same time as the fronts ( its 2 rear sets for every 1 fronts I guess) and then maybe get a full set of something else?
Or
- get a full set of something else now? Probably for the same price or less than 2 ad07's
- different brands front and back is not something I will consider.
So as far as I can see there is T1R an Kuhmos, but seems that just like with the s2000 custom compound of the re50's that everyone complains of soft side walls of the alternatives, and the non semi-slick alternatives to that were the ad08 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
Don't know what to do, the paranoid part of me want to just use the LTS to keep everything as Lotus intended, the other part thinks there must be a "smart" choice...

I believe AD08's are cheaper and perform very well.
T1Rs are a fine road tyre. I run Falken ZE912's all round and probably prefer them to T1Rs. Much much quieter.
Really only matters if you track it or not but good tyres cost more. If budget allows go for the good ones I'd say.
Gav.

Thanks, I will read into the Falkens.
BTW funny how blackcircles gives 0 results for the Elise fronts. Is it an unusual size?

Wow no hits for that size on kwikfit either. Do you guys use a different size to the 175/55/R16?

AD08's are the replacement for the 07's, just bought four for my S1 at £393.

No, I have S1 15 185 rims which take 195's, the S2 came with silly 175 tyres and though the rims will take 185's, you will have to check with owners whether they will take 195's.

Yeah changing wheels sizes would definetely make things a lot more involved on many levels...
Despite all the threads it not at all clear what my specific options are. Eliseparts says their 195/50/R16 T1R are for all Elise/exige variants... hmmm... are they though? Don't know for sure until I get confirmation from a user. I guess if they fit there will be a heck of a lot of rim protection on the front rims!
Thanks for all the tips.

I , personally, dont like the T1r, took them off the car after 400 miles. If you are looking for a good budget tyre, you wont do better than the Khumo KU31, or 39, as they now are. I do beleive you need 205,s on the front though.

I am in the same boat soon, my rears are about due?
Apparently the SC Elise will take up to a 205 on the front. Think our wheels are 6', and if so, 205s will fit.
I am also looking at Dunlop Sport Maxx Rt. Gordon SHedden uses them on the Exige he does his performance track driving day. They were very impressive if truth be told, stiff side wall, and huge grip levels. They are obviously a damm site cheaper than any of the yokos.
However, I am like you and think should I just be sticking with LTS. Decisions. However, what you pay for the 2 rear LTS yoko you would get 4 Dunlop.

checking out the Dunlop Sport Maxx RTjust now, reasonable prices, and if mr Shedden rates them...
T1R's dunno, dunno seems to split opinion 50-50.
Think a large portion recommend Khumo 31 or 39 over the T1Rs
Btw I'm after an expensive tyre, not a budget tyre, and not an extortionately expensive tyre.
