S1 VVC ONLY REVS TO 5800

Post by muffin » Wed Aug 08, 2012 7:50 am

Anyone got any ideas on what can cause this?
i believe the car is in limp mode hence it is hitting the limiter early.
i have just changed the cam sensor as thought that may be the problem but sadly not.
any ideas?
cheers

There is a current thread about this on seloc, seems there are a few possible causes. http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=343310

I test drove a car that displayed similar symptoms. I passed on the car but the seller later got in touch to say the problem was fixed and it had been a collapsed CAT blocking up the exhaust.

As it looks like you've been advised on SELOC, the car is in limp mode. You really need to get a check tool on it to find out what the car thinks is wrong. Will prove frustrating and expensive to keep replacing things without knowing what the problem is.

MMC could do the check or I'm sure there are a few specialists about with the Lotus Scan tool - it's not a normal OBD reader.

Not sure if this will be of any help but rev's limiting to 5800 is quite a common fault on S1 exiges and whilst it can be caused by various issues the most common is the wheel speed sensor. This is usually resolved by cleaning the sensor and conectors, the sensor can also fail if the wire running through the bulkhead is damaged due to chaffing.
