Fitting PRRT to early S1
Can anyone confirm what PRRT kit I actually need for my Early S1 k-series engine. The EP and E-S kits are for the lower water rail engine, not the up and over. According the the seloc wiki is should be:
Early S1 (Upper aluminium water rail)
Land Rover Freelander kit with cream thermostat (88°C): PCH001190 from Land Rover
Thermostat blanking plate (the seal comes with it): PEL000040 from Land Rover or MG-Rover
Optionnal: Grey thermostat (82°C, lighter springs): PEL500110 from Land Rover
Hose Joiner 32 mm diam. x?
Hose clips 32 mm diam. x?
Anyone actually done the mod and have a note of the parts required?

Firstly the part you describe is correctly designated the PRT not PRRT by Rover/Landrover
secondly - you'd be better of converting your engine by way of a new silicon juction on the drivers side and ally pipe at the foot of the baulkhed to mate with the kits that are commercially available, that way it will all fit with a minimum of trouble and you get rid of that massive air/lock inducing bend which was a real mistake on the early cars.
the bits will come from a scrapper for no money.
good luck with it, remember bleeding/filling the system is critical to the engine's health.

That is hard work, much easier to get the two later pipes from a scrapper, won't cost much, S2 will do just as well and then the PRT will be upright to work as it was designed to do.

Wasn't any harder than re-routing the pipes IMHO

No need to re route, just buy the silicon and ally oparts [2] from scrapper and I jubilee clip done, plus the PRT is then upright to work as it was designed.

Thanks guys. The heads off (at sabreheads) at the moment so I'll have a look at both options, guessing as KingK mentioned the routing of the pipe was hanged to help reduce airlocks. Still not entirely sure what EP's are charging a premium for the kit compared to LR but thats specialist suppliers I guess

EP kit comes with silicon hoses, LandRover with rubber

I have used both the Eliseparts lower rail conversion and the prrt kit. You only need the alu tube and the 3-way hose from the lower rail conversion. I have the Janspeed manifold which is way too big. I've had Ash performance custom make me a longer alu tube so the silicon hose would clear the manifold enough. I have also fixed the alu tube to the chassis with P-clips.
Here is the early system compared to the Eliseparts upgraded system:

I've also added the low water level sensor kit. This was a very expensive cooling system upgrade but in my opinion worth it to prevent from cooking my VGK 1.9 which I have waiting to be put in the car.
I have added some heatwrap to the Janspeed to compensate for the lack of heatshields:

(I will most likely upgrade to the VGK 4-2-1 system at some point)
