AA p&L cover alternator?

HI,

Left the elise sitting for 2 weeks while I used other cars and now the alternator is seized (squealing like mad when it starts and theres smoke from in front of the engine)

Has anyone claimed AA P&L for this? The belt is intact and I stopped the engine, don't think it'll free off without some proper intervention ( revving the arse off it and hoping for the best doesn't count!)

Own fault for leaving it, annoying thing is it's going in a garage next week and will be staying there for a year.

If it doesn't cover it can I just give the battery a full charge, snip and remove the belt and then drive it to the garage before the charge runs out?

If there is a mechanical/electrical fault with the alternator then it will be covered, just be careful of your wording when you call the Patrol out, and also when your garage puts the report in to the AA.

Main point is that it does not cover wear, so make sure that you are reporting an actual fault. Seisure should be fine for a claim.

Do not forget Kev that you have to call out the AA when broken down on the road or at home, depending on your cover.

You can not initially take it to a garage if you want to make a claim.

I've got home cover so will call them and them to recover it to Andersons at chapelton probably. I'll make sure I emphasise "mechanical failure" and "seized"

If its not going to be covered then I'll snip the belt, charge it and put in storage and worry about it next year - it'll be getting a mid life refurb then anyway :-)

Tried it one last time this morning before calling the AA and it ran perfectly. Not even a squeak or hint of smoke.

Alternator appears to be working, left it sitting for 30 minutes with lights heater and stereo on then took it out for 40 minutes and didn't have any problems. Looks like coating it in ACF50 last night worked. Won't be a permanent fix but means I can get it sorted next year.

Guess its my lucky day.
