Immobiliser Issues

Hi all

I've had the car off the road since last November (waiting for a part post MOT fail) and just went to start the engine to try and keep things ticking over ok. Unfortunately it seems like the immobiliser won't disengage.

The key fob works to open the doors but the red ring is permanently lit once the doors are open. The locks sound sluggish to work and the dipped headlights won't turn on. Switching on the headlights just causes all the lights on the dash to switch off and the speedo's needle raises to about 70 and slowly drops back down.

I'm guessing it's a dead/dying battery but just wanted to make sure there was nothing more serious it could possibly be?

Cheers.

Most likely. Get the battery fully charged and then try again. You might need to reset the immobiliser - read your owners manual which should describe it - not sure which car you actually have.

Hi Robin

Thanks for the quick reply. I've had a look at a couple of threads about resetting the immobiliser but they all seem to describe the procedure with different keys to mine. I've a 57 plate elise s2 and the keys don't have the led that all the procedures seem to mention.

Do you not have the owners manual to go with your car? I'm sure it will mention something. If not and assuming you cannot get it to work once battery fully charged then I would call MMC and ask them what the procedure is - I am assuming there is one, of course! Usually there is a way of getting the transmitter and immob back in sync, though.

Cheers,
Robin

I've got the manual - it's just that it gives the same instructions as everywhere else online and the keys just aren't the same. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a charger in the next couple of days and if needs be I can call on mmc!

Cheers for your help

Hmm. Well I might drop a line to the factory then and ask them whether they have the correct owners manual for your car - it might be that you can just download it - I seem to remember they did put a bunch of stuff online a while back.

Cheers,
Robin
