Harnesses.

Post by pete » Tue Apr 16, 2013 11:32 pm

After my last track day my back was sore so I going to try some harnesses. I've bought a bar (S/H) does anyone have any recommendations, there seem to be a wide range of prices.

I've standard seats and it'll be bolt in ones. Has anyone cut a hole in the seat base to fit a crotch strap (too much trouble?). I want to keep the seatbelts if possible cos harnesses are a pain on the road.

(And yes I've tried a CG lock and didn't find much benefit.)

Thanks for the help...

Eat more pies - cheaper and more fun :-) I've never liked wearing harnesses!

Why not ask Eliseparts whether they have a fitting guide for their harness kits - that way you'll know what's involved.

Although the crotch strap is hideous in all ways you can imagine, it will mean you don't extrude your liver through your mouth when you crash having not tightened the hip straps enough. 6-point probably slightly preferable if you're going to the effort of fitting these.

Were it me, I would probably remove the standard seat and fit something like this:

http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show ... iver-seat/

Or try to get an unwanted S2 Exige seat that has the harness holes in it.

Cheers,
Robin

I've always been impressed with the Scroth harnesses Lotus fit. Good wide smooth webbing, easy to adjust with the tabs and they have an anti-submarine function which you may like. Not anti-submarine in a hardcore leftie Faslane protest kinda way, but in a patch in a shoulder strap that expands and stops the person slipping under the lap belts. Good solution to the crotch-strap issue.

Still only works if the lap belts are well enough adjusted - easy for a racing snake like Pete - not so easy for fat boyz like me - first you must find the hip bone!

Only an issue for Pete if he's planning an ambitious expansion programme then.

That's excellent gents thanks. Hmm will think if I really need a new seat. I fancied a Tilett one but then i suspected I was just spending for the sake of it. And I can only afford one which will look stupid.

PS I may have to change my name to "Racing Snake".

And get it written on the car.

And maybe on a specially comissioned hat.

You could save money by shortening "Racing Snake" to "RS", pronounced "arse"? <BG>

I fitted a used Corbeau Le Driver complete with harness the same as the one that Robin pointed to, after my back got worse, and the standard one was not giving me enough support, particularly on the track. CraigW fitted it the existing runners for me.

Added bonus was that it was higher and gave me a better vue.

Cheersw tut, appreciate that (although I have the opposite problem from you - height is not something I need more of!)

How about "Miserable Leftie Racing Snake" - is more catchierer I think.

Also it would set you aside from the other would-be Racing Snakes.

I refer you to the reply given in Arkell v. Pressdram (1971).
