some winter improvements

Post by Dipper » Wed Apr 17, 2013 9:43 pm

cars now about ready for an mot! its been off the road since october for a couple wee jobs that grew arms and legs!

initially the plan was to replace the leaky rad. while the front was off i replaced the heater with an intact 2nd hand one, bled the brakes and gave everything a good clean and sprayed with acf50

new seats, harnesses and steering wheel. its on a removable boss but the main think is that its 40mm closer to me and no longer gets in the way of my knees!

next up was a full new set of nitron NTR46's. this mainly came about as someone wanted my old rusty 40's.

they need a bit of tweaking as the cars too low at the front and too high at the rear. should get that sorted today. also ditched the crap plastic grill and driving lights for wire mesh. unfortunately i bought the ridiculously priced stuff from elise parts and it doesnt fit that well. to get it to look right i took @ 30mm off the clam so that the grill sat closer to the front but this also made the 3 openings slightly larger. next time ill cut my own mesh!(got some off mikie so ill be replacing the other plastic crap when i can). oh and theres a new towing eye in there as well

lastly, i needed to replace the lambda sensor as the wires were fried on the exhaust. while there i discovered the existing heatshield was toast and the exhaust had burned a hole into the boot. so the exhaust had to come off and i mended the boot floor and replaced the heatshield with a small fortunes worth of nimbus stuff. still not entirely happy with the lambda wire routing. i slipped a pushbike spoke up the sleeve so i could bend it away from the exhaust but with the lambda spacer on there as well now there isnt much slack in the cable. ive wrapped an offcut of nimbus around the wire which should prevent direct contact with the exhaust. fingers crossed!
