Honda Elise exhaust

Hey guys

Is it worth getting an exhaust that comes up and over the engine or just normal styles. It's a stark kit we've used and was going for up and over to keep the heat away from the driveshafts, boots etc.

Would welcome the input of our k20 gurus please

Yes but you pay handsomely for them, and lose the boot..

Aware of that. Think it's £1500. But will it increase reliability significantly?

My cars mcapes old one, don't about 35k I think it is with him driving( when I had the cam cover off the vtec cam is as worn as the normal one

and it's now supercharged and chargecooled, with the same under exhaust set up, I won't be rushing out to change it, yeah there's more power but reliability I doubt it..

I think Andy was asking about reliability of drive shafts improving if you move the exhaust to up-and-over the boot floor.

Andy, I don't think the exhaust ever goes up-and-over the engine because the Honda exhaust is at the rear of the engine already, but maybe I am wrong on that (I'm struggling to visualize a Honda exhaust that runs over the engine unless it's going to emerge from the boot lid F1 stylee?). I think the choices are to run it under the boot like the normal Elise set up or to run it over the boot floor in a more direct route to the back of the car.

I have no idea about the reliability of the drive shafts and I'm sure the world has moved on since the early days of Honda conversions and drive shaft issues.

It's over the rear chassis bar, hence away from the shafts, when supercharging mine I heatwrapped it anyway to help

Tut, you have any issues with driveshafts? where does your exhaust run?

Driveshafts and CV's have been my biggest issue over the years, but they seemed to be sorted now, although i am not doing the track days and mileage that I used to .

However if the uprated shafts are used together with the correct inner and outer CV's, assembled properly with good boots and grease, and the heat shields are all in place, you should be OK.

AlanG is the expert on these and will give the best advice, and also Scuffers as well.

if you dont need to boot then over the top is best

Boot lid exit as mentioned above would be first....

Andy, over the top without a doubt. More room for a better design, giving more power/torque and helps keep the heat away from the drivetrain.

My findings of the under subframe exhausts, is that the heat melts the grease from the cv joints and sprays everywhere. You can insert breathers and use better high temp grease to help with this but still not ideal. The other trouble is 02 sensors or wiring to it. I went through 4 or 5 of them, to the point I was going to remove it for track driving.

I'd get a company like tullets to make you a nice custom job, and show of your funcy pipes to all your customers.

My opinion/findings anyway, Alan.

Obviously with the many conversions do Tullet do off the shelf as such? Or does the existing system/car need to be there?
