S2 wheels on an S1?
S2 wheels on an S1?
Is this possible? Is this advisable, given the different wheel sizes from an S1 to an S2?
I have a set of victories on just now but they are too heavy. While I'd love a set of magnesium dymag's or technomagnesio's they're far too expensive

I think you can change the whole wishbone/suspension setup allowing you to fit them, or you may get some spacers.

Ah, so not really a good idea then?

Good idea, just not cheap. I think I read it on seloc. Someone did it while building an elige.

Ok, cool thanks. If it isn't cheap then i might be just as well saving up and then trying to hunt down some of the magnesium ones.

Think Parko on here did it using just spacers/adaptors?
Not sure I'd bother if intending to use the narrow S2 fronts tbh.

If its the size your after S1 exige was 16/17 and I may have a set for sale shortly. Also worth checking with Scotty, I thought his S1 came with S2 wheels but he has put it back to original?

Think Scotty's S1 was Parko's car before Stu had it?r10crw wrote:If its the size your after S1 exige was 16/17 and I may have a set for sale shortly. Also worth checking with Scotty, I thought his S1 came with S2 wheels but he has put it back to original?
Re: S2 wheels on an S1?
Yes and I'm just changing them back to s1.
It looked good with the bigger wheels, but not the best for tracking.
You have to get the hubs drilled and fit spacers.

Re: S2 wheels on an S1?
it's doable with hub adapters to change both the PCD and offsets...
however, geometry wise, it's a bad idea and tyre clearances get interesting.

Re: S2 wheels on an S1?
Your a better man than me if you'll notice the difference a kg a wheel will make when driving it! I've driven a good load of Elises with different wheels from Rota to Victory and everything in between and can honestly say in my hands the difference is negligible
It is doable with spacers though
besides the S2 Wheels and tyres are bigger so any weight saving if any will be minimal? they also have skinny fronts

It is doable with spacers though

Re: S2 wheels on an S1?
I'm fitting s2 hubs to my s1 just so I can have the stronger wheel bearing. From what I've been able to gather is that rear arms are the same length as the S2's. The front S1 arms are a few mm shorter but I'll give it a go with the S1 arms to start with and if I run into any problems I'll switch to S2 front arms. If it all works out okay I'll buy a set of S2 GT hubs.
Only thing that is a real problem is the speedo. I'll have the S2 bearings which have the built in sensor but I'd imagine the signal that it puts out will be very different to the signal that an S1 speedo can read.
Kev.

Re: S2 wheels on an S1?
The S1 stack speedo input will likely cope with the S2 sensor output as the S1 uses a similar VR (variable reluctance) sensor - if not it is not hard to adapt the signal so that it will work - I can help you with that if it becomes an issue. The S2 may produce more/less pulses per revolution, however, so you may need a frequency scaling component in there to adapt that part of it - easier than it sounds
