Quick question..
I've been looking at suspension refresh components, thinking of starting to gather some bits, and am wondering why everything I find seems to be plated, and not stainless?
Cheers,
Chris

Dissimilar metal corrosion, plus you need the right tensile strength for safety. Get the right ones.

Cool, I figured it'd be something as simple as that.
With the dissimilar metal corrosion, people seem to use stainless camber shims, I presume that's a coat them in duralac job then?
My plan is to gather parts for a winter project (maybe next winter, will see..)

Re: Suspension refresh bolts - why not stainless?
Yup - really any time steel is touching ally at all, it's a good idea to duralac them. Especially in the wheel wells, where it's not the driest!
The main reason, I think, for the bolts though is the tensile strength.

yes, I made all aluminium ones and you still have to be carefull.Corranga wrote:Cool, I figured it'd be something as simple as that.

Second shug zink…. plated for corrosion and im making a good guess but grade 8.8....that’s a UTS of 800MPa. The right size is obviously important and also the type etc...half threaded.
From my engineering experience i would say the bolts will tear through the bearing alli bracket bolt surround before it shears...lol
