Intermittent Rev Counter Problem

I recently started experiencing a problem with the rev counter in my S1:

Occasionally if I hit a bump the rev counter dies - it can be brought back by tapping on top of the Stack

Assuming it was a loose connector I removed the Stack and reseated the connector - but still no joy :(

I'm pretty sure the problem is the connector, if I wiggle the connector it makes the rev counter drop out.

Any suggestions how I can fix it?

Give you good odds it's actually the cable on the sensor in the rear wheelarch. They fracture all the time. Must have fixed mine 4-5 times in the 10 years I had my S1...

If banging the stack fixes it then my money is on the needle being loose on the spindle. Nightmare fix! Ask MMC would be my advice :-)

Thanks

I'll check the sensor wiring first.

Where about in the wheel arch / which side is it on?

...just had a quick google for images.

Is the sensor for the speedo? - does the rev counter not get its feed from the ECU?

The speedo work fine - it's just the rev counter that has a problem.

I think the needle is pretty solid - it seems ok when it does its re-set every start up, and it seems to read fine when it's working.

I'm at CLCM this afternoon for a geo setup so I might nip into MMC while i'm there. Whatever the problem is, it's probably past my DIY abilities anyway

Got it booked into MMC - I'll update the thread with their diagnosis
