Over filled with oil

Post by deepsea gangstarr » Fri Sep 20, 2013 5:58 am

My girlfriend has gone a filled her golf GTI up with oil, the thing is she thought it was like filling her window washer bottle and as far as I know she filled it pretty much to the top. :?

I dont think she got very far before the dash lit up like a christmas tree and she about turned and drove the car back home. Any ideas what sort of damage she has done or if the engine will be completely goosed? The details are all a bit vague just now as I am offshore at the moment, anyone know what I am going to expect when I get home?

Cheers,

Steve

One of our taxi drivers did the exact same a few years back.
It wasn't good, blew out just about every oil seal in the motor, engine had to come out and be totally rebuilt and a new clutch fitted as it was soaked in oil too.
Mechanic reckoned we were lucky there was no mechanical damage.
It was a VAG group Diesel engine and he only got about 200yds from where he filled it up.
Hope you have better luck with it.

On a trip down south. Woody and me met a bloke who had done the same on his escort convertable.

It was on fire.

Cheers, lads.. I am sure it is most likely not salvageable anyway..

I a definitely not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about it, I will find out next week when I get home what the damage is.

Yes Tut I totally agree, she has not had alot of luck with cars in the last year. It is muggins here that has to foot the bill though.. :(

Just to top it all off, I am on a boat near Hongkong with a super typhoon as they are calling it, heading right towards us. 140 kt winds so should be interesting.

It should be compulsory for women, in fact children as well, to have to do a course on basic servicing when they take their tests. Clare barely knows how to use a petrol pump with living in Dubai, and Verian thinks that the engine oil has a min and max mark on it, thats not on the dipstick but the brake fluid reservoir.

Luke comes in today to tell me that there is an oil warning light on the TT, I ask him what it is showing on the dipstick, goes out to check and says that there is no oil on it.

My brother was driving our vw polo runaround when it went bang and stopped dead. Asked him if anything was on the dash before it happened-he replied that there was a flashing red light with what looked like a watering can on it.
Cue scrapped car with seized engine!
To make matters worse-we were away at the time so asked my dad to empty the car and arrange for it to be collected by scrappy. He didn't check the drivers side glove box and my Oakley sunglasses got crushed with it :x

Should be funny, but it is probably close to the truth.
