Locked out of boot - Elise S2

Post by The_Rossatron » Thu Oct 17, 2013 6:23 pm

My brother has been a bit of a genius and managed to lock his car keys and flat keys into the boot of his Elise. I hear there may be some secret method - would some kind soul PM it to me please? I won't ask you to post how to bust into these cars!

For N3 twas a big screwdriver and a hammer, then I removed the catch so it could not happen again.

Hang on I have an S1 so it does not have keys, must have been because it was jamming. No problem if you push it down, but do not spin at KH at 60 and run down Duffus backwards as it will act like an air break, hence the crease across my lid.

I have heard it said that more than one elise key will open the boot ...

Also you can remove the grille but that will require you to prise it off which in turn will result in some damage.

You're welcome to borrow my elise keys (EH4 3AN) if the car is in Edinburgh.

Cheers,
Robin

Ease the lid up with something without damaging the paintwork. Halfway between the catch and the hinge is good. Get a coathanger or similar in the gap and go fishing. Strong magnet on the end of the fishing rod is also good. There is a fair bit of play in the lid so do not be afraid to lever the gap. Get the keys to the gap and retrieve. Unlock.

Get a spare key or ALWAYS check you have the key before dropping the lid.

Thanks guys. The boot must be extremely bendy or he must have worringly slim wrists as somehow he managed to get his hand in and retrieve the keys!

That's good because now I think about it some more I think it's the petrol caps that open with any old key, not the boot ...

It is extremely bendy but if I had locked my keys in my boot I would have struggled to get anything bigger than a screwdriver blade through the gap. Not that I did ever do anything as stupid as lock my keys in the boot.....

Glad there was a happy ending. Security is not high on the Lotus priority list, given the car is made of plastic!!!
