VX Turbo, one for The Robin!

Post by r10crw » Sat Jan 04, 2014 8:02 pm

So heres what I put on the VX,

Got one here for the genius corner.

Started off with my friend fitting a new battery to his VX T. Afterwards he said his wipers didnt work. We didnt have time but found a new earth line from the battery to the plinth that supports the motor cured the problem so wire was ran.

Then his indicators failed. He barely ever drives the car so cannot guarantee the fault developed after the wiper/battery issue but but doubt he drove round for any time without indicators. Anyway thread here,

http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/12 ... t-working/

He finally came round and I looked at the hazard switch. Seemed okay, terminals all tight but worked in some WD40 and hey presto the indicators started working. Incidentally the hazards always worked just the indicators did not. Pointing to the ignition live not permanent.

Anyway he jumped in the car engine running and checked the indicators, all ok, tried to flash his lights and nothing. Turned on the lights and the dip/main is working fine. Next he tried to flash once more but the engine cut out and now wont start. Cranks away but nothing like starting. Dont know when the flash of headlights failed, not something you check.

He felt the engine cut at the same time but could be coincidence.

Fuses okay but now really scratching my head.

Im usign the early S2 wiring diagram but guess i could be missing an earth from somewhere?

Ideas?

If you do find the fault, sounds like it could be applied to N3.

Sounds whacky. Does anyone have actual wiring diagram?

My guess is bad earth causing inappropriate current flows through other parts of the wiring.

With a wiring diagram we could test circuits and find the root cause.

I would check the fuse box and relays first, they were badly corroded in my one, and the switches also have a habit of not working, wd40 fixes them but i think you are better with contact cleaner. I had both problems at the same time, whilst driving to the Ring and Spa, on the motorway, in the dark, great fun.

Good luck

Just wanted to give a update. As crazy ass this sounds the problem killing the fuel pump etc was the hazzard switch. Just touched it and the fuel pump primed.

New one to be ordered.....

I think those switches are straight out of a Vectra, so you could possible pick some up at a scrappies / fleaBay..
