BMW Mini

Hi all

My good lady's mini 1.4 has been using a bit of oil recently. I checked it again today to find a small bit of mayo in the top of the oil cap. The coolent level was down a little but not much and the temp has never flashed red. Car seems to run fine but I am a little concerned over the mayo.
Anyone got any experience of the Mini or thoughts on it?

Thanks
C

This time of year, you can get a bit of condensation on the cap, which can cause this.
Does the car get used every day?
Give it all a clean out, and top up all the fluids, and keep an eye on it.

In all likely hood it's fine. What 1.4 is it, there are 3 different 1.4 engines used in the mini including the early diesel? The dipstick on the later cars is notoriously difficult to read.

Laura's mini had this too but it was down to doing a lot of short journeys, not giving the car enough time to heat up fully. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks all. It's a petrol 09 plate with 30k on the clock. She does use it every day but only 10mins to work and 10 mins back. It's really difficult to get a oil reading from the dip stick can the dip stick be changed?

Phil did Laura's use oil?

Thanks

It'll be the short journeys then. They can use a bit of oil but the non S cars are normally not too bad I understand. Apparently the 2010MY dipsticks are easier to read but still not brilliant.

Thanks Woody.

Am guessing you can use the 2010 dipsticks in the pre 10 cars with no issues.
