Sorry if this has been posted before
Whats the difference between these & the 189bhp ones ?
Can you change the ECU or remap them to 189bhp ?

The Elise S has a 1.6 engine as opposed to the 1.8.
N/A engines do not respond very well to re-mapping, and I have not heard of either engine being mapped for more power, though the 1.8 had an upgrade to move the VTEC point.

I think you're thinking of the earlier Yota Elise's? If so, no, although both a 1.8 engines, they are quite different
The lower powered car uses a 1zz-fe, where as the 189bhp model is the 2zz-ge..

I'm thinking of buying another Elise later on in the year & I'm just doing some homework.
Cheers

and tut is talking about the later Elise s from mid 2010 with a different 1.6 toyota 1ZR-FAE engine, same power as the earlier 1.8 1zz-fe
All toyota engines listed here.

And as mentioned above the 1.8's were different engines so no upgrade option.

And not the current Elise S either as that is supercharged

And the equiv power of the later 1.6 engine masks the fact that it's down on torque vs the 1.8 134bhp version although has better economy. Latter regarded as a Very Good Effort. 5 SPD box instead of 6.

The 134bhp 1ZZ-FE has variable valve timing (VVT) whereas the 189bhp 2ZZ-GE has variable valve timing and lift (VVTL). Both are 1.8 litres and have a 5-speed box.
The 1ZZ-FE has a nice spread of torque across the rev range and is very flexible. The 2ZZ-GE develops all it's power & torque quite high up the rev range, I think the cams open up over 6000rpm or something. I have heard that you can re-map the 2ZZ-GE to move the point at which the cams open up lower down the rev range.
The 1.6 1ZR-FAE is horrid (sorry!) unless you thrash the nuts off it. Max power & torque is similar to the 1ZZ-FE but the driving experience is completely different.

Just one wee correction - the 2ZZ-GE has a 6 speed box (certainly in the Elise application)
